米ノースカロライナ州でウォーターフロントのバーがボートから銃撃されて３人が死亡し、８人が負傷した事件で、警察は２８日、４０歳の元海兵隊員の男を逮捕したと発表した。
この週末は、イラク戦争に派遣された元海兵隊員による銃撃が連続した。ノースカロライナ州の事件の翌日には、男が米ミシガン州の教会を銃撃して放火する事件があり、やはりイラク戦争に従軍した元海兵隊員のトーマス・ジェイコブ・サンフォード容疑者が現場で警察に射殺された。
